BOOK REVIEWS:

My friend, Yolanda, has written a wonderful book. Her heart and soul are on every page--and you will be a better person for knowing her, reading her. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed, I was disappointed when "Valley Life" was over. My complaint is that Yolanda and Ken didn't live next door to me, but reading "Valley Life" is the next best thing. I immersed myself in Yolanda's story and thoughts. With the final page turned, I knew I was a better man for taking her into my heart as a reader. I heartily recommend "Valley Life" to you. --Preston Gillham, author and guide, PrestonGillham.com

Valley Life is an incredible story about the author’s personal journey through deep downturns of life and what God does with all the pain and trauma. This is a compelling, practical message about living through those excruciatingly painful events we all dread… events that tear violently at us, our families and friends. Life isn’t fair and we struggle to withstand and survive these great personal challenges to our identity, the love resident in our hearts, and even to our faith in God.  This is a heartfelt, emotional roller coaster of a story that was hard to put down, not just because of skillful storytelling, but because of its important message about God’s presence, love and support of us in our darkest, loneliest times. It’s a message so many among us need to hear. Highly recommend this book. —M. James

We spend so much time and energy trying to avoid “valley” experiences in our lives — those events that leave us feeling powerless, overwhelmed, frightened, and heartbroken. And when we discover that our best efforts can’t prevent tragedy, we quickly turn our attention to trying to get out of that valley moment as quickly as possible. But what if there’s something to learn amidst the unwanted, life-shattering shadows? What if there’s actually life in the valley, leading to discovery and grace, newfound peace and contentment, the honesty of tears and the adventure of new relationships?

Yolanda Cohen Stith has walked through the valley, and she candidly invites us into some of the most personal, intimate, sorrowful, and joyful moments of her journey. With compassion and wisdom, she offers hope and direction to others who find themselves trying to make sense out of trauma and loss. And, most importantly, she invites us to meet God in a way that goes beyond doctrine and thoughts; she introduces us to a loving, sovereign, divine Father who loves us and cares for our hearts more than we might ever realize. The author invites us to actually experience God in an intimate way that leads through the suffering to a sense of surrender and serenity. —S. Heine, Senior Pastor at Hope Christian Fellowship in Vint Hill, VA

Valley Life is one of those books that you pick up almost hoping that you can’t relate to the pain that the author expresses. Maybe it will be a touching read about some tough life experiences and the author will use a couple of verses from the Bible to dress up their wounds. Was I wrong! Yolanda Stith takes the reader on a very relatable journey of independence (life apart from God) to a relationship with God as she came to know Christ. She then takes a deep dive into the heart of our loving Heavenly Father as she traversed the pain of loss and heartache. This book eloquently describes the process of knowing God on a cognitive level, to knowing God in a very intimate and experiential way with the ultimate result being full dependence and surrender. This book is on my top 10 list of favorites for sure. —L. Stotler, Network 220
